LIMITED EDITION FINE ART PRINTS |
AFRICAN ELEPHANT (Loxodonta
africana), Etosha National Park, Namibia, 1996
|
Viewed from the safety of a hole
in the ground, this bull elephant glistens in the afternoon sun after
using its trunk to spray itself with water to cool down. Frequent application
of water, and mud, helps to preserve the skin and stop it from cracking.
Etosha elephants are famed for their size, but not for their tusks which
flake and crumble due to mineral deficiencies in the diet. Photograph
taken while filming elephants for a wildlife film about Etosha Pan.
